Approach to Absences and Cancellation Fees
This document is intended to provide transparency regarding how and why the cancellation policy is applied.
It’s often relevant and useful to discuss any mixed thoughts and feelings about attending psychotherapy appointments. I encourage open and curious reflection and dialog about this. Please bring up any questions and comments at your next appointment.
The more advance notice you provide for a cancellation, the greater availability I can offer current and prospective clients who request appointments. Maintaining access to mental health services is important for the entire community.
How to Cancel & Reschedule
- Visit your client portal.
- Choose Appointments.
- Under Upcoming, cancel the appointment that you need to reschedule. If you’re cancelling less than 24 hours in advance, the system won’t let you cancel yourself and will prompt you to call. You don’t need to call—just send me a message and follow the remaining steps to reschedule your appointment.
- Under Appointments, choose Requested, where you can request a different appointment from available times.
- You’ll be asked to select Service, Location, and Date/Time. Depending on your selections, the options may vary.
- If you can’t find an available time, check back later. Other options will appear when other clients adjust their schedules.
Cancellation Policy
2006 – 2009
Some long-term clients may be grandparented into a since-retired cancellation policy of 24 hours notice.
2010 – Present
Clients manage an allowance of four free absences per year, regardless of notice given, regardless of reason for the absence. Absences beyond the fourth will be billed to you, regardless of advance notice.
