Frequently Asked Questions

I’m posting some of the most frequent questions I receive. I also welcome you to contact me directly with any additional questions.

WHAT IS YOUR FEE?

My fee for individual psychotherapy is $190 per 45 minute session, payable at the time of service. If you are insured by Aetna, you are responsible only for deductible, copayment, and co-insurance fees as specified by your policy. More on fees…

DO YOU ACCEPT MY INSURANCE?

I am a participating in-network provider with Aetna and Aetna Student Health. All other insurance is handled on an out-of-network basis. More on insurance…

WILL MY INSURANCE REIMBURSE ME IF I PAY OUT OF POCKET?

It depends on your policy. Most PPO plans will reimburse you a percentage of fees that you pay to an an out-of-network psychologist. At the end of each month, I provide a receipt that you may submit to your insurance company for partial reimbursement. You may call the toll-free number on your insurance card to ask about the rate at which they reimburse you for fees you pay an out-of-network psychologist. Questions to ask your insurance company…

CAN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT ON THE WEEKEND OR IN THE EVENING?

I don’t work on the weekend and have only limited evening availability. Feel free to contact me to inquire about current availability.

CAN I SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS WITH YOU EVERY OTHER WEEK?

Weekly appointments already are a watered down version of traditional psychoanalytic treatment, involving three or more appointments per week. If you want to get serious work done, you will need to come to therapy at least once weekly.

DO YOU WORK WITH CHILDREN AND FAMILIES?

No, I work with adults in individual therapy.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Excessive cancellations should be avoided because keeping therapy appointments on a consistent basis is essential to making meaningful progress.  If you and I decide to work together, I will usually schedule one forty-five minute session (one appointment hour of forty-five minutes duration) per week at a mutually agreed time. Once this appointment hour is scheduled, you will be expected to pay for it. More…

WHERE DID YOU COMPLETE YOUR TRAINING?

I earned my doctorate in 2005 from the APA-Accredited Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University New England. Please see Qualifications for full details regarding my training and experience.
